NYE Plans – Final Answer

Anyone going to see Sharon Jones tomorrow night at the 9:30 Club????

Going to attempt an Indian-on-acid face paint similar to Drew and Lily (pictured below) with a little Dap Kings inspired 1960’s outfit.   Depending on the amount of pre-concert champagne I have, this could be a total disaster.   At least it will be dark in there!  Ha!

After a few months of deliberation, I've decided on Mottahedeh Chinoise Blue.   I love it.  It's young, it's traditional, it's elegant, it has an ethnic feel, it's formal, it's fun and most of all, my mom approves.  And when you're picking out china, that's who really counts.  Right?

Blog surfing really brings on "why didn't I think of that??" moments on a regular basis.  Here's an example:

Insane 4 year old + bedroom dresser + chalkboard paint = smart.  This indulges the creativity, yet limits the drawing-all-over-the-expensive-wallpaper-with-sharpie-markers disasters.  And it's cute. 

I also need to buy about 20 baby presents, so maybe I should start here.

We're finally on the upswing.  The shortest day of the year is officially over.

New Years Resolutions... here we go

I like New Years resolutions.  I've thrown weight loss, giving up Diet Coke and Law and Order reruns completely out the window-- so I'm all about attainable results. 

Resolution #1:  The Side Braid

This 'do has been around for awhile and I've been attempting it for some time, but in the New Year, I am determined to look more like Kate Hud and less like the crackhead from Friday.  Because that's how I look every time I attempt this look. 

And speaking of, doesn't Chris Tucker date India Arie?  Are they married?  I love her.

Catching up

I’ve been a terrible blogger lately.   Really, I know I have and I’m sorry.   My laptop has gone wonky, which has made posting a royal pain.   Lucky for us, I see a gleaming, sparkly, white Apple in my immediate future!

1.  Karl Lagerfeld’s Blog

Ok.  Designing/ professional talent aside here.  Read his blog for approximately less than thirty minutes and you’ll be incensed.   Words like insanely obnoxious, arrogant, pretentious and prick  may come to mind. 

But if you can press on a little further, you’ll find that the hate clouds oddly lift.  Keep reading, and you suddenly start actually kinda liking the guy behind the shades.   And, to your surprise, he’s actually hilarious.    And a pretty talented “writer” (he claims to dictate his entries, of course).  He’s caricature for certain, a very insane one, but totally fascinating and funny.

Believe it or not, I think Uncle Karl truly is haute couture’s Larry David.   Skeptical?  Click here.   

2.   Gift Guides

Everybody’s doing it.. including me… check out my list on Rikshaw Design.    Also love the solid Diptyque perfume mentioned here.

Need a dude gift?  A guy I went to college with just started his own line of reasonably priced tailored shirts.   Look out Thomas Pink.

Gypset Gift Guide

I just saw these super cool hand painted Balinese baskets on fav blog Elements of Style and am in love.  

This is a perfect place to hide the US Weekly/ InTouch/ Star Magazine avalanche next to my bed.   On the outside, it says: “seasoned world traveler”… but only you have to know that on the inside it really says: “Speidi-holic.”    

I checked out the sale site, The Loaded Trunk, and it has a ton of really interesting stuff.   Rugs…

Love for less

Even though I am still totally infatuated with this cuff from Charm and Chain...
...this Nicole Miller cuff currently on Gilt Fuse for $78.00 may have to do it for now. 

Not nearly as good as the original bling cuff, but for $500.00 less, not bad either.

My friend forwarded me this article from The New York Times Style section and I think I’ve looked at it every day since.   This is the second time this month someone I know has had their home featured in print.  And by know, in this case, I think I recognize the dude from a late night dance party in DC-- circa 2004.   And, if memory serves me well, this place is a massive upgrade.   Ha!

Their apartment is flat out stunning.   Modern, classic, youthful, tailored, bright, clean—I love it.   I also love the antlers, which they apparently returned after the shoot. 

I’m also glad I decided to hang on to that Tibi dress.
