I'm going to Dubai and Oman next month. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Have any of you ever been before? I'm dying to ride a camel. And drive along the coast. And through the desert. And stick my toe in the Persian Gulf. (What WHAT!) And explore a country I admittedly know little about, but by all accounts is beautiful, welcoming and totally intriguing. Oh yeah, and get a tan.

Save the trip go somewhere safe where muslim men won't be treating you bad. Get a clue!

I just about died of joy for you! You are going to have SUCH a wonderful time. I have not been to either place but stopped through Bahrain on my way to India recently, and I wished I had more time to stay. Please tell all about it!

Anita... yes to all (sorta). My college roommate is a Middle East scholar currently living and teaching in Iraq. She (along with a couple other teachers organized the trip... some guys, some Middle Eastern, all Arabic speakers) and I had the good fortune of having a free airline ticket and the vacation days to make it happen! So yeah, it's out there, but I'm excited to see a part of the world I'll probably never get to see again... with people who can really show me what it's all about. Just checked the weather forecast.... beats the hell out of Cville! I'll bring you some textiles!

I am dying of jealousy over here. You are going to have an AMAZING time! In Switzerland I had a classmate---Iman from Oman---and her pictures from home were spectacular. I just adored her and have always wanted to go visit. Take TONS of photos!!!!
